Digital Series, Retrieval, Digital Conversion & Finding Aid, Processing Photo Images of the McKay Collection in Arcata

Client: Special Collections, Humboldt State University, Arcata, CA., 2007-2009

The McKay Collection was a personal collection assembled by a local scholar and environmental activist over the course of his work as a researcher, journalist, and organizer and is considered an excellent representation of the materials generated by environmental activists from the 1970s to 2006. The Digital Series was assembled from files retrieved from diskettes found in storage as well as the original files on his personal computer. Early files were created on an Apple desktop computer, while later files were created on a MAC system. All files were retrieved using original hardware and migrated to an external drive, then converted into PC compatible records in order to preserve both the original files and create a duplicate set for public access.
