Marine Hotel/McGrath Boarding House Historical Context Study
Client: Roscoe & Associates and City of Eureka, CA., 2012
This project produced an Historical Context Study that documented one of the oldest continually operating boarding houses in California. A remnant of the Gold Rush era in Northern California, the core of the building is a prefabricated house constructed in 1853, with additions over the next 75 years. The Study also confirmed the significance of the largely unaltered landscape and setting on a bluff overlooking the early waterfront industrial site, and the significant role of women as owners and managers of these essential businesses.
